About the Open-Source Files
Every Mekanika design is available to download as a 3D assembly file and can be opened with any CAD software. If you don't have one, no worries, the file can also be viewed using a web browser.
You can then use this file to replicate our design in your workshop or even modify it to create your own version of it. Just keep in mind that if you’re making things yourself, you’re in charge! Mekanika can’t be held accountable for any issues related to malfunctions or incompatibility.

BOM & Assembly
The Bill of Materials is the complete list of all the items that are required to build a product. We chose to separate it into several sheets - depending on the component types - to increase its readability. Besides, each sheet is dynamic and will be automatically updated as soon as we release a new version of this design.
As part of our design methodology, you will see that most of the components used in our designs are standard, which means that they can be easily ordered from many different suppliers around the world. Learn more about this methodology here.
Software
As detailed in the bill of materials, the machine is controlled with a PlanetCNC controller and a Raspberry Pi. The control software, PlanetCNC TNGv2, is very intuitive and easy to customize, making it an ideal choice for many users. All the documentation related to that software can be found in the downloads section of this website. You will also find there the default configuration files for each machine model.
In terms of CAM software, we recommend using Fusion360 with our post-processor that can be found inside their cloud library.
If you prefer to control your machine using different software (LinuxCNC, Mach3...), it is of course possible. Just bear in mind that you will have to use a different controller and make sure that it can be installed on Raspberry Pi OS, otherwise, you will need an external computer to control the machine. Moreover, you will also need to check which post-processor is suitable inside your preferred CAM environment.
License
This machine is licensed under Creative Commons BY-SA.
This license lets you remix, adapt, and build upon our work even for commercial purposes, as long as you credit us and license your new creations under identical terms. This license is often compared to copyleft-free and open-source software licenses.
Mekanika is an open project and we are eager to welcome other designers, engineers or creative people on board. We have tons of ideas that we want to develop, so if you share our values and views on open-source hardware and modular design, drop us an email at info(at)mekanika.io
At last, we would be glad to hear from you if you've worked on your own version of this design. Any feedback is of course greatly appreciated too, so don't hesitate to get in touch with us!
